Blackjack is one of the most popular and widely played casino card games in the world. It is a comparing card game between one or more players and a dealer, where each player competes against the dealer. The objective is to have a hand value as close to 21 as possible without exceeding it.

How to Play Blackjack

Basic Rules:

1. Card Values:

   • Number cards (2-10) are worth their face value.

   • Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are each worth 10.

   • Aces can be worth either 1 or 11, depending on which value benefits the hand most.

2. The Deal:

   • Each player is dealt two cards, as is the dealer. Typically, one of the dealer's cards is face up (known as the "upcard") and the other is face down (the "hole card").

   • Players can see both of their own cards and the dealer’s upcard.

3. Player Decisions:

   • Hit: Take another card.

   • Stand: Keep your current hand.

   • Double Down: Double your initial bet in exchange for exactly one more card.

   • Split: If you have two cards of the same value, you can split them into two separate hands, each with its own bet.

   • Surrender: Forfeit half your bet and end your hand immediately (only available in some versions of the game).

4. Dealer’s Turn:

   • After all players have completed their hands, the dealer reveals their hole card.

   • The dealer must hit until their cards total 17 or higher. Some casinos require the dealer to hit on a "soft 17" (a hand containing an Ace valued as 11).

5. Winning the Game:

   • If your hand value is closer to 21 than the dealer's without exceeding 21, you win.

   • If your hand exceeds 21, you "bust" and lose the bet.

   • If the dealer busts, all remaining players win.

   • If you and the dealer have the same hand value, it’s a "push," and your bet is returned.

Example of a Blackjack Game

1. Place Your Bet: You place a $10 bet.

2. Initial Deal: You receive a 7 and an 8 (totaling 15), and the dealer shows a 6 as the upcard.

3. Player Decision: You decide to "hit" and receive a 5, bringing your total to 20. You then "stand."

4. Dealer’s Turn: The dealer reveals a 10 as the hole card, making a total of 16. The dealer draws another card and gets a 7, bringing the dealer's total to 23, which is a bust.

5. Outcome: You win because the dealer busts. You receive a $10 payout.
